ILMI Online Activism Course: Strategies for Change awarded Rethink Ireland Innovate Together Grant

ILMI are delighted to announce that our innovative online activism course is one of the 51 projects chosen from 481 applications by Rethink Ireland as part of its Innovate Together Fund.

Strategies for Change will allow ILMI to build on the capacity of disabled activists from across the country to work collectively to build an inclusive Ireland. In the year that Ireland makes its first report to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), more than ever, disabled people’s voices need to be heard” said Des Kenny, ILMI Chair.

“Funding for Strategies for Change allows ILMI to create an innovative online programme with legacy learning resources that will mean as a Movement disabled people are empowered to build authentic representative voices to bring about strategic change locally, regionally, nationally and internationally”

ILMI’s innovative online project will deliver 20 online workshops on a range of topics to build collective approaches to build equality. Many of the inputs will be delivered by experienced disabled activists on topics such as disability equality, intersectionality and the social model of disability.

ILMI will also work with experts from the Irish Human Rights Equality Commission (IHREC), the Free Legal Advice Centre (FLAC), Values Lab and the National Women’s Council of Ireland (NWCI) to cover a range of topics including the role of Public Participation Networks, the Public Sector Duty, Equality Legislation and the role of values in bringing about change. These inputs will be recorded as high quality video inputs for activists to use as learning resources either “live” via Zoom or as an online legacy on the ILMI website.

As part of the project, ILMI will create a peer space for activists outside of the workshops, to build and support the development of a peer group of disabled activists across the country. It will be an active space for participate in the online training, to look at how they as activists can work collectively as part of the Movement to influence change: locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.

Full details of the programme will be announced in due course, but for more information email
